Cancer Takes Dennis Hammer

Dennis was proud to be a Marine Vet and was a devoted husband and father. He will be missed.

Dennis Scott Hammer, age 61, of Merrillville, Indiana succumbed to cancer Thursday, July 17, 2008 in his home surrounded by family and other loved ones. Dennis was born December 21, 1946 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the fourth child of John Henry and Guadalupe Hammer. Dennis was employed at Guardsmark Security. He was an alumnus of Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana and was a proud veteran who served 7 years in the United States Marine Corps. Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Robles Jr., and his father. Dennis was a devoted husband, son, and father. He is survived by his mother; Guadalupe Hammer; his wife of 30 years, Maria Therese Hammer; seven siblings: Carol Abner, John Hammer II, Diana Hammer, Manuel Dias, Anita Ruiz, Stella Mata, and Eva Robles; five children: Jeannie Caltagerone, Valerie Sineni, David Hammer, Donald Hammer and Diana Hammer; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 11:00am at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway in Merrillville with Deacon Malcolm Lunsford officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 23rd at the Geisen Funeral Home Merrillville Chapel from 2:00pm until 8:00pm. A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00pm.
