We Lose One of our “Finest” (See Next Article for Funeral Arrangements)
Friday, May 30, 2008
It is with a very heavy heart that we write of the passing of John Halcarz on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2008. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time so we will update you as soon as we learn the details. This information will be posted in our News Section here and we have wonderful photos of John posted in our Photo Album Section from our last pizza party in late May. John had been readmitted to the hospital the week before he died after a short period at home following colon surgery. He had multiple health problems these last few years including diabetes, stroke, heart problems and finally a clot in his right leg. Here is the text of his wife's e-mail of July 31:
“John had lost a lot of weight, was dehydrated and weak. The doctor was also worried about his kidneys, so we went to the emergency room. They've run tests on his colon and found that it seems to be working okay. He's having the endoscope today (Thurs. 7/31/08). They continue to work on fattening him up, and don't seem to know why he's in pain. Unfortunately, he's developed a clot in his right leg, which they're treating. All of this is rather frustrating all the way around. At least he's feeling a whole lot better, and is very happy with the nurses and the aides.”
That last phrase says it all; John was ever cheerful and thankful for the good in his life especially Diana and his three children. He once said that he wasn’t afraid to die because he had had the best. God bless this extraordinary man who gives us a shining example of the triumph of the spirit over any adversity.
God rest him well.
