Rima’s Thoughts on Autumn from California (Posted 9-25-08)

Sunday, November 30, 2008

It's official.  Autumn has arrived and with it all the wonderful changes Mother Nature displays for her family.  Even in sunny California we can feel the change, if only in the shorter days and the longer shadows.  The sun's lower angle in the sky deepens the colors we perceive and the riot of the color show astounds us, preparing us for the white of winter.

Soon we will be celebrating ghosts, ghoulies, goblins, witches, pirates and all variety of noble and wicked beings coming to our doors to extract sweet treats from us.  Many of us will "Oooh" and "Ahhh" these little beings, pouring upon them adulation as well as small packages of treats.

Before long, the season of Thanks will once again be upon us, when we remember the gifts that we have in family, friendships, health and possessions.  And as the year comes to a close, we will rejoice in the New Hope the Christ Child brings us as we once again show gratefulness to those we love as we shower them with gifts and well wishes.

It is the last quarter of our once-new 2008; in many ways, the most creative of the four seasons.  As the days grow shorter and, in some cases, colder we reminisce our spring joys of growth, our escapades of summer, our memories of similar times past.  Autumn seems to bring us to a time of a final flurry of chaotic colors in leaves, costumes, and landscapes as it leads us into the quiet of winter's ruminations.

May you be blessed in this season which brings us in touch with ourselves and with the many who daily enter our lives.
