ANTHONY JOSEPH PERNAL 
age 89, of Munster, IN, passed away on February 11, 2009. He was born on September 25, 1919 to Felix Pernal and Josephine Such-Pernal in East Chicago, IN. He is survived by his loving daughters: Diane (Robert) Maleski of Kingsport, TN and Claudia Pernal of Munster, IN; grandchildren: Kimberle (Ewoud) Maleski-Swaak of Atlanta, GA and Mark (Tracy) Maleski of Herndon, VA; great grandchildren: Danielle Maleski of Herndon, VA and Evan and Isabella Swaak of Atlanta, GA; sister, Frances (late Joseph) Kryszak of Schererville, IN; brother in law, Marion ( Jo Louise) Winters of Webster, MA; sister in law, Evelyn (late Joseph) Bajo of Decatur, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by sister, Mary Hap; and brothers: Stanley and Leo Pernal.
On September 25, 1943, while Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army-Air Corps, he married Irene M. Wasowicz of East Chicago, IN, who preceded in him death in February, 2008. (on the 20th)Their 65 years together were filled with love, laughter and dancing. Tony graduated from Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, IN and attended Purdue University and Indiana University. His career as an accountant included employment with Sinclair Research as Paymaster, the accounting department at Atlantic Richfield Company and accounting for Morton Norwich Company. He retired in 1983. Tony was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Munster, IN, a member of the Knights of Columbus-Robert Weis Council 1 #10596, was a former member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Ushers Club, all of St. Thomas More Church. He was a Charter Member of the American Legion Post 369 of East Chicago, IN. He was an avid bowler, golfer, wood worker and wine maker, growing his own grapes and berries.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009 directly at St. Thomas More Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Yadron celebrating the Mass.
Visitation will be at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Avenue, Munster Sunday, February 15, 2009, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Wake service at 2:30 p.m. American Legion Post 369 will post colors at 5:30.
Burial will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden Cemetery in Schererville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN, 46321 and Hospice of the Calumet area, 600 Superior Avenue, Munster, IN, 46321. A man of many talents, Tony will be dearly missed by his family and friends for his generosity, compassion and fun-loving ways.
