Jim Corrigan's Dad Dies (Posted 6-26-09)

 George F. Corrigan, age 84, of Dyer passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice "Lee" Corrigan (nee Mugica); sons: James Corrigan of Modera, CA, William Corrigan of Porter, IN and Michael Corrigan of Dyer, IN; daughters: Bernadette (Tony) Monda of Ogden Dunes, IN and Barbara Patai of Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Rachael and Adam (Kimberly) Patai, Brian (Courtney) Corrigan, Samantha (Benjamin) Ortegon, Karen (Aaron) Mistretta, Katie and Colleen Corrigan, Anthony Monda; great grandchildren: Nathaniel and Amanda Ortegon, Olivia and Vincent Patai, Isaac Yrene, Orion and Gabriel Montelongo; and brother, Thomas (Mickey) Corrigan of Glen Ellyn, IL. Preceded in death by his parents: George and Helen Corrigan; brother, James and sister, Florence.

 

Visitation will be on Friday, June 26, 2009 from 3:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. (next to Fitness Pointe), Munster, IN and Saturday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, IN with Fr. Charles Niblick officiating. Interment will be private at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.

 

Mr. Corrigan was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II; earned recognition with the Victory Medal and for service in the American Area and European-African and Middle Eastern Campaigns. He loved sports and in his youth was an all around athlete. After retiring from Lever Brothers in 1978, he became actively involved in the Notre Dame Quarterback Club and served as Business Manager of the Notre Dame 100 Club for many years. George was a well known sports enthusiast in Northwest Indiana and when not at a Notre Dame game, he could be seen at Bishop Noll watching his grandson, Brian at a track meet or a basketball game cheering on his grandson Adam. He was a strong supporter of the Special Olympics where his granddaughter Rachael is a frequent participant. Out of all these attributes the outstanding remembrance of him is his devotion to all his grandchildren to whom his memory will always be cherished.
