Ginny's Exotic Life (Posted 7/22/09)

Four years ago my husband, Lou, and I retired to Bangkok, Thailand, along with our four cats in tow. We have been coming here ever since our honeymoon and knew this is where we wanted to live. So we sold everything and bought a condo in town because we love the big city atmosphere.
As luck would have it the Bangkok Hospital Medical Cener near our home was trying to become accredited by the Joint Commission International. So compared to the Thai staff, I looked like an expert. I was hired as Assistant CEO, Nursing Affairs and I have loved every minute.
Unfortunately, Thai is a difficult language to learn (and I am no longer a good student), so much of the time I need an interpreter. We have management from Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, so it is not uncommon. All management meetings are in English and all the physicians speak English.
This is a world class hospital run like a 5 star hotel. (www.bangkokhospital.com) We have a Heart Hospital with the DaVinci Robotic Surgery and the newest 256 slice CT Scan. We have a Cancer Hospital with molecular targeted therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and interventional radiology. The medical center includes a Rehab building and a Dental Clinic with 100 dentists. Not to mention our famous Anti-Aging Center (since we are all 62 this sounds like a good place to check out.) We have many Buddist Ceremonies at the hospital as Thailand is 97% Buddhist.
After our hospital successfully achieved accredition I have traveled to other hospitals in our network (19 hospitals in Thailand, Cambodia and soon AbuDhabi) to raise the standards - Phuket, Pattaya, and Rayong. It is a dream job and an exciting way to end a long career in nursing.
As you can see from the pictures traveling is our hobby searching for the incredible Buddhist Temples and cultural sights. Hard for me to believe that I grew up in Calumet City, graduated from BNI and ended up in Bangkok! A dream come true.
Sending peaceful thoughts your way,
ginny
Ginny also says she has returned to the links and finds she remembers all her father taught her about the game. She can hit a straight drive but just not as far as before. Maybe a little more practice time, right Virginia?
