It sounds like Tom had a fulfilling life that we would have loved to have heard of before his untimely death. Sad to be moving him from the missing list to the chapel. God rest him well.
Thomas S. Carnowski, age 63 of Brazil, IN died May 10, 2010 of complications of cancer at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born November 18, 1946 in Hammond, IN as the son of Sigmund A. and Anna Partak Carnowski. He attended grade school at Irving School in Hammond, IN and graduated from Bishop Noll High School. He attended college in New Mexico. He moved to Chicago and trained at the Washburn Trade School to become a chef.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at SHAPE Headquarters in Belgium where he was chef to the U.S. European Forces. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the U.S. and worked at Gapers Caterers and later at Ferray- Florshine as a chef. After 35 years in Chicago, he retired and moved to Brazil, IN in 2002. He enjoyed living in this small community and liked the very friendly people there. Tom loved cooking and even in retirement made food and bread for friends, neighbors, and relatives; especially at big family events.
In Hammond he attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. In Chicago he attended St. Andrew Catholic Church and in Brazil, IN he was a member of Annunciation Church for the past eight years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in- law, Ralph Nordyke. He is survived by his sisters: Eleanor Gagnon of North Stonington, CT, Henrietta Nordyke of Dyer, IN, and Linda Dunn of Tempe, AZ; nieces: Kathy (David) Rosenberg of Pawcatuck, CT, Annette (Mark Sr.) Meyers of Brazil, IN, Carrie (Stephen) Roach of Indianapolis, IN, and Chancey (Timothy) Stanage of Crown Point, IN; nephews: William (Holly) Gagon of Ledyard, CT, Ralph Nordyke Jr. of Crown Point, IN, Jeffrey (Cary) Nordyke of Chesterton, IN, and Daniel M. Nordyke of Dyer, IN; and many great nieces and nephews.
At his request, Moore Funeral Home was chosen to provide cremation services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2010 at Annunciation Church with Military Honors to follow.
